We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Anyway what if someone doesn't have OpenCanvas - it's kind of expensive program. I would suggest using global tools names - cause I've no idea what "gum" is. (except my small assumption that's kind of smudge, blur tool).
About overall look & approach - shortly explained steps, illustrated and shown in standard tutorial layout. I give 8/10 because You didn't use standardized names which would made this tutorial more usable for non-OpenCanvas users
